Our Story

“Clam Daddy” Bill Mayer Sr. started as a wild clammer in 1968. He harvested wild clams behind Brigantine and sold them to local clam dealers. Eventually, Clam Daddy moved up the ranks and became a clam buyer and dealer himself.

However, the clam population started to dwindle after over harvest, lack of preservation, and pollution occurred along the coast. The wild fishery was not managed correctly and clams started to disappear. Clam Daddy saw the need for more clams, and aquaculture was just starting to occur on the east coast. Clam Daddy decided to be a pioneer of clam aquaculture in South Jersey and start his own farm behind Brigantine.

Now, our family-owned and operated business is still producing and farming the best clams in New Jersey. We serve local restaurants and seafood stores through the year with fresh local clams. We also sell at our local farmers market on Saturdays during the summer.

We are proud to operate a fully sustainable aquaculture farm. Aquaculture is the most eco-friendly type of farming we do. This is a put and take fishery: we put the clams there then take them out at maturity. We are giving back to the environment while creating delicious seafood.
